Beyond Within: A VR Odyssey by Spryk & Tessellate

Core Concept

The experience began with the night sky’s grandeur, transforming telescopes into microscopes to equate stellar formations with atomic structures inside us.​ Spatial binaural soundscapes—crafted from compelling synths and electronic textures—guided participants through uncharted realms, blending orchestral emotion with sci-fi wonder.​

It challenged perceptions of space, inviting awe at what lay beyond our skies and within ourselves.​

Magnetic Fields Debut

Beyond Within premiered as a festival highlight at Magnetic Fields, featuring dual VR stations in a themed tent with retractable chairs and a three-person crew for seamless operation.​

Gizmodo praised it as “a fascinating virtual reality infused audiovisual showcase,” noting Spryk’s “emotional and perfectly in tune” orchestral sound with the sci-fi theme. Wild City anticipated its power to “overwhelm viewers with an exploration of what existed beyond our skies… and within ourselves”.​

Technical Craftsmanship

Powered by Oculus Rift with dedicated PCs and Subpac, the piece delivered a unique 360° binaural audio environment alongside art-directed visuals.​

Spryk handled sound design, music, and direction, while Tessellate led visual design, VR environments, and technical execution—produced via Skip-a-beat.​
